This delightful Balkan-inspired jam strudel is a perfect treat for any occasion. A flaky and crispy phyllo dough is filled with a generous layer of sweet and fruity jam, then rolled and baked until golden brown. The strudel is dusted with powdered sugar, creating a visually appealing and irresistible dessert that pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp kitchen towel to prevent it from drying out.
Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean work surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Sprinkle a thin layer of breadcrumbs over the butter. Repeat this process, layering phyllo dough, butter, and breadcrumbs until you have used about 8-10 sheets of phyllo.
Spread the fruit jam evenly over the top layer of phyllo, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
Starting from the long side, carefully roll the strudel tightly, tucking in the edges as you go. Place the strudel seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the top of the strudel with the remaining melted butter.
Bake the strudel for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
